Windmill Museum

One of only two such museums globally (the other in the USA), this open-air museum displays 27 working windpumps, collected to preserve South Africa’s disappearing agricultural heritage as solar pumps replace windmills.

Loeriesfontein agricultural show

An annual event focusing on livestock farming, particularly horses and sheep, with cooking competitions, a gala dinner, and dancing. It’s a social and networking hub for the community.

Fred Turner museum

This museum showcases the culture and historical lifestyle of the Trek Farmers of Bushmanland, Hantam, and Namaqualand. It houses over 1,000 items, including a trek wagon, equipped tent, and a horse mill, offering insight into the region’s agricultural heritage.

Namaqualand Flower Season

Loeriesfontein, part of Namaqualand, is famous for its vibrant spring flower displays, with nearly 4,000 plant species creating a colorful spectacle across empty plots, the golf course, and roads to Kliprand and Calvinia. The season peaks in August and September but may extend to October depending on rainfall.

Quiver Tree Forest (gannabos)

Located southeast of Loeriesfontein, near Nieuwoudtville, this is one of the world’s largest quiver tree (Aloe dichotoma) forests. These drought-resistant trees, used by the Khoisan for quivers, can grow up to 4 meters and live for 400 years.

Salt Pans (dwaggas)

Located 100 km from Loeriesfontein in the Bushmanland plains, these salt pans are still in production and offer a unique glimpse into the region’s mining activities.

Hiking in oorlogskloof nature reserve

Near Nieuwoudtville (about 65 km from Loeriesfontein), this reserve offers hiking trails with breathtaking views of the Oorlogskloof River canyon, Table Mountain Sandstone formations, San rock paintings, and spring flowers.
